A question of standards

I just had a rather disheartening conversation with a friend of mine. I know this is totally cliched, and it has been dealt with hundreds of times before, but why do people feel a need to hold themselves to a specific body type. This friend of mine was totally going on about how important it is for her to lose a few pounds, and all that. The problem is, she really doesnt need to. Im not going to get all oogly, but she is very good looking as she is. She seems to have this ridiculous standard set into herself about what an acceptable body type is, and she cant seem to shake it.

I hate to say this, but half the problem may very well be her mother. She's a personal trainer, and only deals with the very rich, plastic surgery, uber vane types. As a result, i think part of this unrealistic fake standards that her clients have are rubbing off on her daugter.

Whaever happened to the concept of being happy with the person you are. Imean, honestly, unless youre obese, and your doctor is saying "you need to lose weight to stay alive", why are we like this. There are many glaring flaws in my own physiology that i could be unhappy with, and harp on and whatnot, but i choose not to. I think if more people stopped worring about how they looked in comparison to Paris Hilton, the world would be a better place.

Nads: Formerly held my heart in the palm of her hand, ive actually moved on quite a bit. I actually kinda hit it off with one of the auditors that works for the buisness office at OP.

Kim: Im going to contradict myself a bit, because I too have had moments of crushing self doubt about my physical appearance. I think were all naturally critical of ourselves, not only physically, but also with our other endeavours, artistically or whatever. Thats why I always feel that as much as you have to be accountable to yourselves, you also have to be totally aware of your enviornment around you, and seriously heed the advice of people that are close to you. I mean, and i know it sounds lame, but its very similar to how U2 writes their lyrics and music. Basically, most of the lyrics and music come from Bono and the Edge. However, they rely on Adam and Larry to act as a gauge for what theyve done. Theyre impartial, because they arent part of the process, so they can look at it with a far more objective eye.

I do agree that there is likely more pressure upon women to look a certain way as opposed to guys. I dont think there is really the same demand for guys to be 20 pounds underweight, with a silicone chest and whatnot. However, I totally beleive that that concept of beauty painted by hollywood is a load of bullshit. The most attractive thing i find in a woman is her confidence in being who she is, and not worrying about what other peoeple thing, or what standards she has to hold herself to. I think thats why im so frustrated about my friend, bc its not about her health, or some other valid reason, its simply because she sees herself as a "cow" which she isnt.
